General Information

Is the Insured Person required to pay the co-payment or deductible?

The Insured person does not need to pay for the co-payment or deductible.

What is the maximum coverage period of a trip for Bubblegum Travel Insurance?

The maximum coverage period of a trip is 180 consecutive calendar days for a single trip travel insurance plan.

What is the age limit for Bubblegum Travel Insurance?

Bubblegum Travel Insurance is for all ages. You must be 18 years old and above to apply for/purchase a travel insurance policy and may purchase a policy for a minor online.

If children under 18 years old are not travelling with parents or guardians, can they enrol for Bubblegum Travel Insurance?

Yes, parents or guardians can apply for Bubblegum Travel Insurance for children who are travelling alone.

Can I extend the policy period, after I have commenced travelling?

In the event the trip has to be extended due to unforeseen circumstances, the travel insurance coverage shall be automatically extended until the Insured person’s return to Singapore, subject to a maximum of seven (7) days at no additional premium.

Can I cancel the policy?

As Bubblegum currently only offers a single-trip travel insurance policy (defined as a short-term policy covering a specific trip, usually commencing from and returning to Singapore), no changes, cancellations, or refunds shall be made once the premium is paid.

Will this policy pay if I have other insurance plans covering this loss or expenses incurred?

If any loss, damage or legal liability covered under this Policy is also covered by any other insurance, we shall not be liable under this Policy except for any excess beyond the amount payable under such other insurance, provided that the benefit of Accidental Death and Disablement, Overseas Hospital Cash and Travel Delay shall not be limited by the foregoing limitation. (This applies to the case whereby insured hold both a travel insurance and a personal accident policy.) The Insured can claim Accidental Death and Disablement coverage for both travel and personal accident policies.

Who is the beneficiary? Can I assign a beneficiary?

Any indemnity related to accidental death shall be payable to the Insured person’s estate. All other indemnities shall be payable to the Insured person.

Can I purchase Bubblegum Travel Insurance after I arrive at my destination?

No, any travel insurance purchased after you have commenced your journey and departed Singapore is considered invalid. Please purchase the insurance before you proceed beyond the Singapore immigration counters. The policy effective date must be the same as or before the insured person’s departure date from Singapore.

What is the difference between Southeast Asia, Asia Pacific and Worldwide plan?

The coverage differs based on your destination. Please refer the countries covered within each category below.

Southeast Asia includes Brunei Darussalam, Malaysia, Cambodia, Indonesia Laos, Myanmar, Philippines, Thailand, and Vietnam.

Asia Pacific includes all ASEAN countries as well as Australia, Bangladesh, Bhutan, China (excluding Tibet), Fiji, Guam, Hong Kong, India, Japan, N. Korea, S. Korea, Sri Lanka, Mongolia, Macau, Maldives, New Zealand, Pakistan, Papua New Guinea, E. Timor, and Taiwan, as well as other Pacific nations.

Worldwide : All destinations worldwide.

Am I covered for amateur hazardous sports?

Our travel insurance provides international coverage for amateur hazardous sports such as hot air ballooning, scuba diving, sky diving, skiing and other extreme sports with no restriction on height or depth.

Exclusion on amateur hazardous sports:

Riding or driving in any kind of motor racing, competition, engaging in a professional capacity in any sport where an Insured person would or could earn income or remuneration from engaging in such sport as a source of income.

Am I covered for Marathon competitions?

No, this policy does not cover any loss, injury, damage or liability suffered and/or sustained by or arising directly or indirectly as a result of or in connection with riding or driving in any kind of motor racing, competition, engaging in a professional capacity in any sport where an Insured person would or could earn income or remuneration from engaging in such sport as a source of income, such as participation in Marathon events.

Will this policy provide cover for business trip?

Yes, Bubblegum's Travel Insurance Policy is applicable to leisure and business travel. With regard to business travel, this Policy shall only apply to a Trip undertaken for the purpose of carrying out professional, managerial, clerical and/or administrative tasks.

Am I covered if I’m pregnant?

For pregnant women, please take note that this travel insurance policy does not cover loss, Injury, damage or liability suffered and/or sustained by or arising directly or indirectly as a result of or in connection with pregnancy, miscarriage or childbirth; or any injury or sickness associated with pregnancy, miscarriage or childbirth.

What is a Common Carrier?

“Common Carrier” means any mechanically propelled conveyance operated by a company or an individual licensed to carry passengers for hire.

"Common Carrier Operator" means a company or an individual that operates a Common Carrier and is licensed to carry passengers for hire.

This terminology is used because we cover cruises and other transportation methods

Medical Coverage

I hurt my back during the trip, so I went to a clinic overseas and was treated with acupuncture and medicine. Does this policy cover these costs? Are there any limits to my coverage?

Unfortunately acupuncture and chiropractic care are not eligible for claim.

Overseas and follow-up medical coverage only applies to expenses paid to a physician or doctor qualified by degree in western medicine.

For more details on the definition of "physician or doctor", please view Page 15 of the full policy wording.

Does this policy cover pre-existing medical conditions?

No it does not. This policy does not cover loss, Injury, damage or liability suffered and/or sustained by or arising directly or indirectly as a result of or in connection with any pre-existing condition, or any complications or conditions arising therefrom.

“Pre-existing Condition” means the condition for which the Insured person received or was recommended by a Physician or Doctor for any treatment, diagnosis, consultation or prescribed drugs, or the signs or symptoms of which the insured person was aware or should reasonably have been aware within twelve (12) consecutive months immediately prior to the Policy’s effective date.

I felt sick on the way back to Singapore, so I went to the doctor the day after I arrived in Singapore. Is this medical expense eligible for reimbursement under this policy?

No, this is not eligible for reimbursement.

What number can I call in an emergency?

When you are overseas and in need of emergency assistance during the policy period, you can contact our 24-hour global emergency assistance service at (65) 3158 2536.

Will Starr Global Emergency Assistance Services pay for the flight ticket and hotel costs if my relatives or friends come to visit when I am injured in hospital?

No.

Are there restrictions on coverage for children under 18 or adults over 70?

If the Insured Person is under 18 or over 70 years of age at the time of Accident or Sickness, the maximum sum insured for Medical Expenses and Accidental Death and Disablement stated in the Schedule of Benefits shall be restricted to 50% or up to a maximum of $75,000, whichever is lesser.

Trip Coverage

If my flight/ship was delayed due to “bad weather”, can I claim for the delay?

You may refer to the section of your policy regarding Travel Delay. If the actual departure or arrival time of the Common Carrier is delayed due to listed reasons stated in the policy wordings, you may claim for cash benefit which is payable per 6 hours of delay subject to the policy.

Kindly note that the policy only covers delays due to listed reasons in the policy. Therefore, it is essential to provide proof of delay with reasons issued by the Common Carrier. Please contact the Common Carrier Operator to obtain such proof.

Can I make a claim if I have to cancel the trip?

If the Insured person cancels the Trip due to listed reasons stated in the policy wordings within sixty (60) days before the scheduled departure date for the Trip, we shall pay for the loss of and/or forfeiture of unused Travel Ticket cost and/or accommodation expenses which the Insured person has paid in advance, for which he/she is legally liable for paying and which are not recoverable from any other source, up to the applicable Sum Insured limit shown in the policy.

Listed Reasons:

(a) Unanticipated death, Serious Injury, Serious Sickness, witness summons or jury service of an Insured Person;

(b) Unanticipated death, Serious Injury or Serious Sickness of an Immediate Family Member or travel companion;

(c) Unanticipated outbreak of strike, riot or civil commotion or adverse weather conditions at the planned destination arising within one (1) week before the scheduled departure date of the Trip; or

(d) Serious damage to the Insured Person's primary residence in Singapore from fire or flood within 1 week from the scheduled departure date for the Trip which requires the Insured Person's presence in the premises on the scheduled departure date.

Can I make a claim if I have to curtail my trip?

• We shall pay for any reasonable additional Travel Ticket cost and/or accommodation expenses necessarily and unavoidably incurred for a direct return trip to Singapore due to listed reasons stated in the policy wordings.

• We shall pay for the loss of any unused travel ticket cost and accommodation expenses which the insured person has paid in advance and not recoverable from the other source due to the listed reason stated in the policy wordings.

Listed Reasons:

(i) Unanticipated death, Serious Injury or Serious Sickness of the Insured Person or his/her Immediate Family Member or Travel Companion;

(ii) Unanticipated outbreak of strike, riot or civil commotion or Adverse Weather Conditions at the planned destination which prevent the Insured Person from continuing with his/her Trip.

Will this policy pay if I decide to postpone my trip?

We're sorry, there is no cover on trip postponement due to personal choice and/or reasons not listed in the policy document.

Am I covered if I miss a connecting flight because of travel delays caused by the airline?

If the Insured person’s incoming scheduled Common Carrier arrives late at the transfer point outside Singapore and they miss the onward scheduled Common Carrier which they have a confirmed reservation, We shall pay for every full six (6) hours in a row of delay. The period of delay is calculated from the actual arrival time of Insured person’s incoming Common Carrier at the transfer point to the actual scheduled departure time of the replacement Common Carrier. The Insured person must get written confirmation from the Common Carrier Operator or handling agent stating the reasons and length of delay.

Can I make a claim if my flight is overbooked and I can’t get on a plane?

We're sorry, there is no cover on flights overbooked.

Can I make a claim if the flight diversion was caused by weather?

No.

If I have to cancel the trip, would I be able to claim for tickes purchased for other events or activities? E.g. Unused theme park tickets

Unfortunately there is no coverage for missed events.

Baggage Coverage

Am I covered if my phone is lost or stolen?

Yes, you are only covered if it is due to robbery, theft, burglary or any attempt thereof, during the course of a Trip.

A claim for damages to your mobile phone must include one or more repair quotation(s), with one at least, issued by the official manufacturer of your phone.

What types of baggage damage are claimable?

Your baggage must be damaged due to robbery, theft, burglary or any attempt thereof to be considered eligible for claims. Proof or documentation of robbery/theft/burglary is required to make a claim.

I lost my cash during the trip, would that be covered?

Sorry, there is no cover on loss of personal money.

Can I make a claim on the rental vehicle excess if I crash my rental car in overseas?

Sorry, our travel insurance does not cover rental vehicle excess.

Coverage of COVID-19

If the insured person sustains COVID-19 during the trip, can the insured person claim for medical expenses?

Yes, if the Insured Person sustains Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) Infection first contracted and commenced during the Trip and as diagnosed by a Physician or Doctor who is directly treating, testing or, attending to the Insured Person’s medical circumstances which directly results in the necessity of medical treatment outside Singapore, We shall reimburse the Insured Person in respect of the reasonable and customary costs paid to a Physician or Doctor, Hospital and/or land ambulance service for medical, surgical, X-ray, hospital or nursing treatment including the cost of medical supplies and land ambulance hire up to the applicable Sum Insured shown in the Schedule of Benefits.

Sub-limit of overseas medical expenses of COVID-19: SGD 65,000 maximum

Follow-up medical treatment in Singapore due to COVID-19: SGD 6,500 maximum

Does Bubblegum Travel Insurance include Trip Cancellation coverage if the insured person contracted COVID-19?

Yes, Trip Cancellation is covered before the trip starts -- In the event of any serious sickness sustained by an insured person due to diagnosis of COVID-19, we shall reimburse the loss, subject to the sub-limit of maximum SGD 600 per person.

Does Bubblegum Travel Insurance include Trip Curtailment coverage if the insured person contracted COVID-19 during the trip?

Yes, trip curtailment is covered during the trip in the event of any serious sickness sustained by an insured person. We shall reimburse the loss subject to the sub-limit SGD 600 maximum per person.

Does Bubblegum Travel Insurance include hospitalization income coverage if the insured person contracts COVID-19 during the trip?

No.

Does Bubblegum Travel Insurance include a quarantine allowance coverage if the insured person contracted COVID-19 during the trip?

No.
